Yuanda brings Queens Wharf from the computer screen to reality

The Yuanda Sydney technical team recently completed the Performance Mock-Up (PMU) test for Tower One of the iconic Queens Wharf project beside the Brisbane River.  And we’re pleased to report that our façade panels and materials passed the test with flying colours.

Yuanda’s technical Director Derek Bruce used cutting edge parametric software and 3D visualisation tools (Rhino, Grasshopper and customised tools) to develop the full façade to LOD 300.  This meant that challenging interfaces could be addressed quickly and efficiently, giving more information and certainty to the builder and all stakeholders.

As the 3D model included the Performance Mock-Up (PMU) area, design development of the PMU took place very quickly, facilitating early Design-In-Principle concept drawings that lead to For-Construction Drawings which allowed project-specific dies to be manufactured by our team in China.

The PMU testing involved FT01 and FT07 facade types in accordance with AS/NZS 4284:2008. Structural, air infiltration and water penetration tests were conducted to assess the conformity of the wall types against the project specification.

The test was carried out by a third-party test facility and witnessed by the China Academy of Building Research (CABR), at their Gaobeidian Research Base test facility for curtain walls, windows, and doors.

The facility is accredited by CNAS (China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment), which in turn is a signatory to the ILAC (International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation) Mutual Recognition Arrangement. Under their Scope of Accreditation, the laboratory is accredited for testing to the required standard AS/NZS 4284.

Once again, Yuanda’s expertise and end-to-end capability has helped a client solve challenging technical issues and get their product to the market as quickly and cost-effectively as possible.
